Smiling Eyes Look

Well I was GOING to do my NYC post, but then I was like...naaahhhh. I didn't buy anything or do anything particularly interesting because I've been there so many times.
Apparently it is really popular in Korea to have these sort of bags under your eyes. Not like suitcases, but a little fat under the eyes that one has when they are young. The bags make a person look younger and more youthful. Is that the same thing? Whatever.
People even get it surgically injected to achieve the look. So I'm gonna show you how to achieve these cute puffy eyes without needles. *Shudder*

Okayyyy So all we need are brown and white. If you don't have these colours I'm sorry, but hello CVS..?

Lets start off with lining your lower lashline with white. You want to create the illusion of puffy eyes first.

With a darker brown (not black, you're not a panda.) underneath the white, draw a line to create the fake bag. Don't worry if it looks odd, you can blend it with a lighter colour later.

Even when you're not smiling it will look like you are. Perfect for depressed people(?)
some of my pics are blurry because I don't really look at my camera after I take a picture of my eye...oops.

With the same brown, brush it on your eyelid for some depth. Or just use some random colour, but if you want a more everyday look just use brown.

Don't line your eyes too thick or dark because you want that sort of innocent look. I just used black eyeshadow and a tiny bit of mascara. Fill in them brows too.
AND BAM YOU'RE DONE. Easy, no?
Looking up close at my eye reminds me that I really need to clean them up....
So I think this look looks (hahah look look) a lot better in natural light, so I didn't use my ring light this time.

Luckily my uncombed hair just looked wavy. Perfect.

OH NOOOOO BLURRY PIC!!! It looked so good on camera...What happened?

I stopped taking pictures at high angles like all the photo-taking-people (What're they called?....PHOTOGRAPHERS. That's it.) said because it just makes me look very...derpy. I really love this look and I think I'm gonna wear it more often.
Oh yeah and I'm gonna cut my hair a little above shoulder length. And I would dye it brown if I could. *Cough*
I vill shee yoo necksht veek.

Splatter Painted Shoes!!

Splatter Painted Shoes!

D.I.Y.

If you have a pair of white (or perhaps another solid color?) shoes that aren't looking so great anymore, it's a fun and easy project!

I used white canvas shoes (which seemed to work quite well!). I had actually gotten some paint on them when I was helping some 6-8 year olds do Jackson Pollack inspired paintings. And I decided to embrace the splatters that ended up on my shoes!

So here's the before shot...

Notice that I removed the laces and stuffed them with tissue paper in preparation!

Splatter paint time! Now, I used acrylic paint (which I watered down). To apply I used sticks (disposable chopsticks and paintbrushes that the bristles fell off of), dipped them in the diluted paint, and flicked, flailed, and waved them about in the general direction of the shoes. Also, I took it one color at a time, then went back with each color!

Done splatter painting!!!

When they are dry clean up the soles and put the laces back in (if applicable) and voila!

They're done :)

...And ready to wear!!!

I wore my splatter painted shoes for the first time today (I did this project on Saturday) and I've already gotten multiple compliments on them!

Enjoy the week!

XOXO

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY: A makeup tutorial

HELLOOOOOO WHO'S CELEBRATING THE FOURTH OF JULY ALONEE???
Hahhaha.
Red white and blue eyes anyone?

Let's start with white eyeliner on the inner third of your eye. Use a white eyeshadow to blend out the liner. Don't forget to put some on your waterline for bigger eyes. If this is too harsh, use a skin coloured eyeliner instead.

Apply a bright red on the center of your eye.

On the outer corner of your eye, add a dark blue.
And that's pretty much it! easy right? Using eyeliner might overpower this already bold look, so if you want to darken your eyes, use black eyeshadow for a softer look. I'm lazy so I just put on mascara.

Okay so obviously this isnt a wearable look but I mean you can still rock this for parties!

♦♦♦

I also decided to show what my "studio" looks like. It's my room. AND YES I HAVE POOH BEAR STICKERS SO WHAT??

So that's all I got. HAVE A HAPPY JULY 4TH! And if you're not American, you can still use this tutorial, just maybe with different colours?

Highlights of a Short New York City Visit

I just visited New York City for a few days (I arrived Thursday and returned Sunday). It was a very short and sweet trip but I was able to do some interesting things while I was there...

Le Corbusier Exhibition
Ignore the random people that stepped into my shot

I went to the Modern Museum of Art and saw the temporary exhibit "Le Corbusier: An Atlas of Modern Landscapes" and it was great! It will be there until September 23, 2013 and I would definitely recommend going to it. Anyone who is interested in architecture, interior design, or just art in general would appreciate it. There are some amazing building models made of various different mediums (plaster, wood, metal, etc.) as well as things from earlier stages of designing ranging from very rough, messy sketches to extremely detailed, well-thought-out drawings. Also displayed were some of Le Corbusier's paintings which he mostly created before he got into architecture. They are interesting to look at because you can see how his painting style is similar to the his distinct design style. The exhibit also showed a few (life-sized) models of rooms with some of Le Corbusier's interior decor. A look at what the inside of some of the homes he designed may have looked like. I highly recommend going to this exhibition. And you can see it for free on Fridays (that's right, every Friday!) from 4 pm to 8 pm during the MoMA's "Free Friday" events.

Retro Spective

"Retro Spective" is a current exhibition at the Museum at FIT. It is a great collection of retro clothing that gave a brief history of fashion. The website gives a great description (at  http://www.fitnyc.edu/14451.asp) that is also an interesting read so go ahead and read that. The admission to the museum is always FREE so anyone that any interest in fashion should go see it! And you've got until November 16th! Go and see some beautiful and/or interesting clothes!!

PUNK: Chaos to Couture

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has an absolutely amazing exhibit: "PUNK: Chaos to Couture".  It displays clothes right from the Punk movement as well as straight off the runway. It explains the history of Punk and its influence in the fashion world. Its contains clothing from the 1970's all the way to the Spring/Summer 2013/2014 fashion shows. The clothes are from a variety of designers including Vivian Westwood, Versace, Alexander McQueen, and many more. You can enjoy seeing this collection of true Punk and Punk inspired clothing whether you are a Punk fan or not! And if not you can just check out the bathroom that you would be using if you were at a Punk concert in the 70's or 80"s...

Pure Food and Wine

Pure Food and Wine is a raw, vegan restaurant in Greenwich Village. It may sound like the food would not be enjoyable if you are not used to eating raw and/or vegan but I honestly think that anyone could enjoy it! I had the "Plate of Assorted Cultured Dr. Cow Tree Nut Cheeses and Rosemary Crisps" for my first course/appetizer, the "Sweet Corn and Cashew Tamales with Chili Spiced Portabella" for my second/main course, and the "Mocha Tartufo" for my third course/dessert Everything was delicious! I also got to meet Sarma Melngailis who is the owner of the restaurant. She has written two books about raw food: Living Raw Food and Raw Food Real World that are great for people who are interested in preparing really good raw food!

One Lucky Duck Juice and Takeaway

White One-Shoulder Dress
Spring 2012~Rachel Zoe
Sarma also has a juice bar, etc. that has two locations now. I stopped at the Chelsea Market (the newest location, the other is in Gramercy) and got a Calypso Shake. It was tasty...mango raspberry, lemonade, and vanilla. YUM! This was my first time going to either One Luck Duck or Pure Food and Wine and I had a wonderful first experience at both. I hope it is the first of many!

Century 21

Did some shopping at Century 21 and got a great deal on a Rachel Zoe dress! It was valued at $375 and I paid less than $55!!! I love getting a bargain on a great piece of clothing! Although it may not look as good on me as on the model that has it on in the picture...>>>

So those were the highlights of my short visit. The only bad part about taking a trip to NYC: not wanting to leave!!!!

XOXO
